PDF readers

Portable Document Format files were developed by the Adobe Systems to provide a computer system independent means of accurately displaying and printing documents. Although PDF files can be edited, the tools are not generally available, so it is also regarded as a read only format. For more details see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portable_Document_Format.

The most common reader is Adobe Reader, but this has become a very large and slow program. A much faster alternative worth considering is Foxit Reader. Under Linux you may well try Evince
